The Koper Science and Research Centre of the Republic of Slovenia (SRC Koper) was established on 1st December, 1994, by the Government of the Republic of Slovenia, Community of Coastal Municipalities (today, its successors in title are the three coastal municipalities: City Municipality of Koper, Municipality of Izola, and Municipality of Piran) and the Slovene Academy of Sciences and Arts. In March 2003, the Centre became the research nucleus of the newly established University of Primorska (UP) and was renamed into University of Primorska, Science and Research Centre of Koper (UP SRC). In addition to performing their basic activity, UP SRC researchers also participate in study programmes conducted by the members of the University of Primorska. Last but not least, the UP SRC can be regarded as an “incubator” for new under- and postgraduate study programmes of the UP.
