The UP SRC Library is not an independent institution; it is one of the units of the Science and Research Centre of the University of Primorska (UP SRC). Its main objective is to provide support to scholarly and research activities carried out by the UP SRC researchers, as well as to educational processes going on at the University of Primorska.

The initial holdings consisted of materials acquired by the Historical Society of Southern Primorska through exchange of its publications and donation. Today, the bulk of materials are still acquired through exchange with Slovene and foreign institutions (in particular serial publications), as well as through purchase and gift.

The library’s services include collecting and classifying works in print form and online publications, loan activities, interlibrary loan and exchange, as well as keeping records of bibliographies of all UP SRC employees. In 2002, the opening of new premises of the UP SRC took place. Since then the library, together with the reading room and the librarian’s office, has been located at the ground floor of the renovated building at Garibaldijeva 1, Koper.
