The research programme of the Institute of Historical Studies UP SRC focuses on studies of Primorska and Istria as a complex geographical region, as well as an historical meeting point of different ethnic groups, nations and cultures of central Europe and the Mediterranean, as well as the European east and west. The studies deal with social, economic, anthropological, ethnological, political and cultural aspects, paying special attention to Slovene history – both from the viewpoint of the entire region as well as the local or micro-analytical level perspective, and with regard to individual historical periods or developments of "long duration".
