The Institute for Kinesiology Research (IKARUS) focuses on applied research of the human motion: from assessment of motor development of children to evaluating the muscle characteristics of elderly and patients. The important part of its research is assessing the consequences of modern lifestyle, characterized by low level of physical activity and positive energetic balance. Therefore the possible interventions to lessen the burden of chronic diseases (that are consequences of modern lifestyle) on the patients’ everyday living are being searched for. Promoting the healthy lifestyle with enough physical activity, healthy diet and the ergonomically suitable environment is therefore of central importance to the institute. Ergonomics and environmental physiology are, along with kinesiology, important fields that IKARUS deals with.
IKARUS has its research laboratories in the buildings of Secondary Technical School of Koper and Orthopaedic Hospital Valdoltra.
